Summer Mischief

Mischief Cap Its Banner Summer (from San Mateo Daily Journal)

By Nathan Mollat Daily Journal Staff Aug 2, 2018

A year ago, there was no Millbrae Mischief U12 softball team. This summer, in its first season with that age group, the Mischief not only qualified for the Cal State Games, it finished in fifth place in the San Diego tournament last month.

The U8 Mischief team also had a solid end to the season, finishing ninth in the same tournament.

After opening the tournament with a 9-1 loss to Bell Gardens, the U12 Mischief went on a three-game winning streak to advance to bracket play. The Mischief rallied from behind to beat San Carlos Force 7-6 to jump-start its run, stranding the tying run at third base.

The Mischief then posted a thrilling 4-3 win over Lincoln All-Stars when Gracia Shao-Xue supplied the game-winning hit in the bottom of the seventh inning, sending the team streaming onto the field in celebration.

It then secured its spot in bracket play with an 11-3 win over Castro Valley, during which the Mischief erupted for nine runs in the second inning. It was the third game of the day for Millbrae.

The run ended, however, in bracket play with an 11-4 loss to Vista, a game Millbrae led 4-0.

Millbrae pitcher Jasmine Shapiro picked up all three wins during the Mischief’s winning streak. She threw a complete game in the win over San Carlos, was the pitcher of record when Shao-Xue gave the Mischief the walk-off win against Lincoln and followed that with another complete-game victory over Castro Valley to claim team tournament MVP honors.

The overall team MVP this summer was Leila McGraw, the only 12-year-old on the team.

The fifth-place finish at the Cal State Games was the highest finish for the Millbrae Girls’ Softball Association, a program that had a total of 103 girls in the entire league this season and didn’t offer fastpitch softball until 1993.

7/10/2018 - Mischief and Tahoe and More Mischief in SoCal

This past weekend, both our 10 teams competed in Lake Tahoe. The 10Cs finished 2nd in their division and the 10Bs finished first in their's. What a sight it was to have both teams playing in their championship games at the same time! The fields were across from each other and there were plenty of heads turning back and forth. Great job representing the Orange and Black in Tahoe!

Please join me in congratulating the 10s for their outstanding showing!

Later this week, the 8s and 12s will be heading down to San Diego. Both teams played hard to earn their bids to compete in the Cal Sate Games. Please join me in wishing the 8s and 12s the best!

Go Mischief!

6/28/2018 - 8U/10U/12U Mischief Teams Headed to Western National and California State Championships

This past weekend from 6/22/2018 to 6/24/2018, four Millbrae teams competed in the Northern California Championships Qualifier for a chance to play in the Western National and California State Championships. I am happy to announce that our 12s, 10B, and 8s teams qualified to represent the Mischief All-Stars at these prestigious events. The 10C team put forth a valiant effort winning two games but did not qualify.

This is the first time in MGSA history that three Mischief teams received a qualifying bid. On behalf of the MGSA Board, I want to congratulate all the teams for their accomplishments and spirit for competition. I want to especially congratulate the 8s for finishing 2nd overall and the 12s for finishing 4th overall. It was hot out in Hayward and Sunnyvale but it didn't phase the girls as the camaraderie and smiles were very apparent.

Please join me in congratulating the qualifying teams and wishing them the best. Go Mischief!

Below are GoFundMe pages to offset the expenses associated with competing in these games. Please contribute whatever you can as every little bit helps.
